Talking about shopping in Bangkok is not complete without visiting Zen, a local luxury department store which is actually owned by Central Department Store. In my opinion, Zen is tend to have younger and trendy feeling rather than Central, in this case I compare to Central Chidlom. It is located at Central World, the biggest shopping mall in Thailand, and becomes one of the anchor department store. The window display of Zen is of course very spacious and the VM team works very excellently. The feeling and aura of the display is surprisingly modern with minimal decor and luxurious touch. The mannequins are also look special with elongated proportions of legs and other body parts. Chinese New Year celebration is still in the air when I visited this dept. store but it is exposed modernly and fused with Western style. Besides the display of Zen, there are also window displays of some brands that have shop in shop concept. They are Vivienne Westwood that features a grey door and two mannequins in each, also R.E.D Valentino that always use marionette-like mannequins.

ck Calvin Klein: Snake skin

How will you decorate your window display with Chinese New Year theme if your brand is uber modern and ultra minimalist? The answer can be seen in the ck Calvin Klein window display at Plaza Indonesia, Jakarta. There are two plastic screens with snake skin motifs printed upon it. Those properties are very modern looking and nothing Chinese in the design. However, the phyton motif in those screens are related with this year's Chinese zodiac that is, none other than, snake. Brilliant!

Alun - Alun Indonesia: Golden coins

Golden discs act as ancient Chinese coins are falling from the ceiling of Alun - Alun Indonesia window display. Thise Chinese New Year themed display looks vibrant with the striking red colors of the wall and some of the furnitures. As the point of attention is a golden-and-red-circle with snake images inside. As this concept department store is selling Indonesian traditional style clothing as well as other products, there are also a peranakan-style batik hung as the background and put inside an ancient vase. 

The Goods Dept.: Romantic snakes

Another theme-combining window display can be seen at the window display of The Goods Dept.. This hip local Jakarta multi-indie-clothing-brands stores use this year's Chinese zodiac, snake, as the core theme. There are two snakes made of shiny fabrics and come in the mix or red, white, and pink colors. Those snakes are tying up two mannequins, man and woman, and the knot forms the heart symbol that very identical to Valentine day. The background wall is colored with a bright pink paint and there are also traditional Chinese lamps hung on the ceiling to make the window looks festive and eye catchy.

Le Privee: 2 in 1

Chinese New Year and Valentine Day arrive in the same week this year 2013. Thus, it is a little bit confusing to dress up the window display since there is no connection at all between these two celebrations. However, Le Privee's VM team is so smart and creative that they can link those two big days in a single display arrangement. The Chinese New Year theme is presented with the existence of beautiful paper umbrellas that are synonymously Chinese or perhaps Peranakan style. Most of the umbrellas come in arrays pink color tones, the signature color of Valentine day. Excellent!

It is two weeks before the Chinese New Year celebration and some of big luxury boutiques in Jakarta has already dressed their windows with the Chinese style decorations. Traditional and authentic Chinese style decor is the main theme shown at the windows of The Time Place, Mondial, and also Metro Department Store. A red sticker with golden circle and Cherry blossoms figure in the middle make The Time Place's watch machine installation looks more attractive. The same red, gold, and Cherry blossom issues are also used by Mondial but now in realistic properties. In the outside display of Metro Dept. Store Plaza Senayan, a mannequin is wearing a very beautiful cheongsam dress stands among the unique style Chinese lamps. Beautiful.
